20th January, Strahan- West Coast Wilderness Railway APT Railway

19th January, Launceston, Mole Ck, Devils Gullett, Cradle Mtn,Strahan.

Called in at Deloraine and than had a honey ice cream at Mole Creek before heading up to the caves.

Decided to head up to Devils Gullet.

Stopped on the way up a good road but steep.

Devils Gullet lookout, a short 500 mt walk from the car park.

Another small turnaround area, getting pretty good at doing 3 point turns with van, notice the position of the wheels on the van. Helen was also getting pretty good at letting me know just how far back we could back the van when turning around.

Turn off to the lookout and carpark.

Climbed up the broken rock face to get a good view of the van and valley in the distance.

Heading down only about another 10 km to go nice and slow.

Called in to Cradle Mountain for what we hoped would be a two day stop, only to find no sites available so we booked in for 21st & 22nd and headed back to Strahan so we could do the Apt Railway.

17th January, Policemans Point to Launceston

Mt William NP on the way to Eddystone Point.

Eddystone Point Lighthouse built in 1889 the light stands at 42 metres.

Just got back from the lighthouse and boatramp watching some divers getting ready to go in the water. The day before we were down at Binnalong Bay and were told they were watching a 5 mt white pointer from an aircraft in the area.

16th January, Freycinet to Ansons Bay, Policemans Point

Road into Douglas Aspley NP is good but narrow in sections.

Entrance to the Douglas Aspley NP, met some people coming back from the walk to the swimming hole. they warned us about a large snake down the track (was gone by the time we got down). We decided not to swim after the people in the water were all wearing wet suits.

Fire trail across from The Gardens to Ansons Bay. This was a good road in the dry but it could get slippery in the wet I think. A couple of shallow creek crossings towards the end. When you get to the end of the trail go over the cattle grid turn right and follow the main road through to Policemans Point.

Camp area at Policemans Point, we were very close to the end of the track with the river mouth just through the trees behind the van.

This was the view from behind the van looking up towards the river mouth and Eddystone lighthouse in the distance.

Sunrise next morning, plenty of water but I might as well have left the fishing lines at home.

15th January, Freycinet Peninsula

Rocks and Rivers free campground near the mouth of Moulting lagoon opposite nine mile beach and about 5km before you get into Coles Bay. We left the van here and went up to Wineglass lookout. Peter and Jennifer caught up with us and we had a pleasant drink and damper around the campfire for supper.

14th January, Port Arthur Peninsula

Camp site at Port Arthur, met Peter and Jennifer from Exeter in the UK, they were travelling around Australia having a great time before heading back to the UK.
